Dear Customers, Colleagues, and Community:
It has been over six months since Hurricane Helene ravaged our community. Clean-up and assessment of the damages caused by this historic storm has been a slow and frustrating process for us all, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the permanent closure of Highwater Clays in Asheville, North Carolina as a direct result of the damages caused by Hurricane Helene in September of 2024.
As many of you know, our facilities were submerged in flood water. After months of extensive remediation, the full extent of the damages to our critical manufacturing equipment and infrastructure has become painfully apparent. The losses are far greater and more substantial than what we hoped. Rebuilding and recovery are unfortunately unattainable.
We extend our gratitude to our employees, customers, and community who have supported us through the disaster recovery and over the past 45 years. We are grateful and proud of the trust that you, our customers, have placed in us since the founding of the business in 1979, and we take pride in the partnership we enjoyed with you over the past 4 decades. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your professional and personal artistic pursuits.
Although we have lost our manufacturing site in Asheville, our retail store in Clearwater, Florida is still in operation. You may reach out to them for any pottery needs. Please be patient with them as they begin to explore new supply avenues for clays and materials.
